One of our most significant achievements has been the Lung Cancer Research Program within the Congressional Directed Medical Research Program administered by the Department of Defense (DOD).
With $113.5 million in lung cancer research projects already funded, this is the largest lung cancer research program – public or private – outside of the National Cancer Institute.
Research topics include biomarkers of disease recurrence, cutting edge immunotherapies, targeted tests and treatments with added emphasis on under-researched small cell lung cancer.
First secured by Lung Cancer Alliance in 2008, annual appropriations by Congress are required to maintain the program, a process that has been successfully shepherded each year through our network of support on Capitol Hill.
