Faces of Lung Cancer

In Memory of Nicholas S. Koutouzis

Nicholas S. Koutouzis who died February 5th 2003 was 67 years young moved mountains but was unable to beat lung cancer. He was:

A graduate of the School of Economics at the University of Athens, Greece; an importer and exporter of natural sea sponges; a man who sailed his sailboat without any previous instruction; a man who bid for property at Massouri Beach, Kalymnos, and won while his family looked on in awe; a man who when his business went bad in New York was the first sponge businessman to revitalize the sponge industry in Tarpon Springs, Florida; a wonderful father, a loving grandfather who went bowling and ice skating and played baseball and liked his salt-in both life and on his food.

He kept his good humor to the end and never lost hope. He had a good life but he wasn't ready to go and we weren't ready to lose him. He was my father and I will miss him forever.
