In Memory of Nicholas S. Koutouzis
Nicholas S. Koutouzis who died February 5th 2003 was 67 years young moved
mountains but was unable to beat lung cancer. He was:
A graduate of the School of Economics at the University of Athens, Greece;
an importer and exporter of natural sea sponges; a man who sailed his sailboat
without any previous instruction; a man who bid for property at Massouri Beach,
Kalymnos, and won while his family looked on in awe; a man who when his business
went bad in New York was the first sponge businessman to revitalize the sponge
industry in Tarpon Springs, Florida; a wonderful father, a loving grandfather
who went bowling and ice skating and played baseball and liked his salt-in
both life and on his food.
He kept his good humor to the end and never lost hope. He had a good life
but he wasn't ready to go and we weren't ready to lose him. He was my father
and I will miss him forever.
