Information and Support:

Cancer Support Community.  Formed by a meger of The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club, this international non-profit organization is dedicated to providing support, education and hope for all people affected by cancer. Many of the communities across the United States offer lung-cancer specific support groups

Lungcancer.org. A website that is a program of CancerCare and provides support and information for lung cancer patients and their loved ones.  CancerCare (800.813.HOPE) is a national nonprofit organization that provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved.  CancerCare programs - including counseling, education, financial assistance and practical help - are provided by trained oncology social workers and are completely free of charge.  

Association of Cancer Online Resources (ACOR). ACOR Online Support Groups for Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer Support Community. An online support community for lung cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones.  

 

 

Research/Awareness:

LUNGevity Foundation. The organization funds the most promising and innovative medical research into diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer. Also provides emotional support for lung cancer survivors and their loved ones through the Lung Cancer Support Community (see Support section).

Uniting Against Lung Cancer. Formerly Joan’s Legacy: The Joan Scarangello Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer, the organization is committed to fight lung cancer by funding innovative research and increasing awareness of the world’s leading cancer killer, with a special focus on non-smoking-related lung cancer. In March 2010, Uniting Against Lung Cancer joined with the Thomas G. Lebreque Foundation.

Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. The organization’s goal is to eradicate lung cancer through research, early detection, awareness, education, prevention, and treatment.

National Lung Cancer Partnership. NLCP is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to decrease deaths due to lung cancer, and help patients live longer and better, through research, awareness, and advocacy.

International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (IELCAP). A group of 48 institutions in 9 countries, dedicated to studying the benefits associated with early detection of lung cancer by CT screening, and the best practices for using it.  

National Familial Lung Cancer Registry. The Registry was established at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in September 1993. The goals of the Registry are: 1) to further our understanding of the causes of lung cancer (beyond smoking), and 2) to serve as an educational resource for persons at risk for lung cancer.

Family lung cancer studies. Two studies of families of those diagnosed with lung cancer, dedicated to better understanding the hereditary aspects of the disease. Neither requires participants to travel to the study site.

Established in 2001, the GLCC now comprises 26 non-governmental patient organizations from around the world and is committed to improving disease outcomes for the lung cancer community. Lung Cancer Online. A comprehensive clearinghouse of information about lung cancer, created and maintained by lung cancer survivor Karen Parles. Features extensive links to other sites.

The American Legacy Foundation. ALF is dedicated to building a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. The foundation has two goals that guide its work toward creating tobacco-free generations: to arm all young people with the knowledge and tools to reject tobacco, and to eliminate disparities in access to tobacco prevention and cessation services.

International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. The purpose of the Association is to promote the study of the etiology, the epidemiology, the prevention, the diagnosis, the treatment and all other aspects of lung cancer and to disseminate information about lung cancer to the members of the Association, to the medical community at large, and to the public.

 

Other National Cancer and Cancer Related Organizations:

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). AACR fosters research in cancer and related biomedical science; accelerates the dissemination of new research findings among scientists and others dedicated to the conquest of cancer; promotes science education and training; and advances the understanding of cancer etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment throughout the world. The website includes proceedings of recent meetings.

National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). A non-profit alliance of 21 leading cancer centers, dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of care provide to patients with cancer. Include treatment guidelines and a separate patient information website.

American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). ASCO, the premier professional organization of American oncologists, has online proceedings and abstracts from its annual meetings.

American Institute for Cancer Research. AICR helps people make choices that reduce their chances of developing cancer.

Angiogenesis Foundation . Educates patients about the role of angiogenesis in cancer development and progression, and about antiangiogenic therapies that are both approved and in development by cancer type.

Cancer.net. (An ASCO Website). Doctor approved cancer information from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)  

Cancer Hope Network is a not-for-profit organization that provides free and confidential one-on-one support to cancer patients and their families. We provide that support by matching cancer patients and/or family members with trained volunteers who have themselves undergone and recovered from a similar cancer experience.

Prevent Cancer Foundation.Advocates and supports the prevention and early detection of cancer through research, education, and community outreach.

Oncology Nursing Society. The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional organization of more than 32,000 registered nurses and other healthcare providers dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and administration in oncology nursing. The overall mission of ONS is to promote excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care.

National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship is the oldest survivor-led cancer advocacy organization in the country, advocating for quality cancer care for all Americans and empowering cancer survivors.

The National Brain Tumor Society. A national non-profit organization that brings together the best of research and patient services and is a comprehensive resource for patients, families, caregivers, researchers, and medical professionals. Helpful resource for patients with brain metastases from lung cancer.
