What Do I Do If I Am at Risk?

Many current and former smokers are at increased risk for lung cancer and may not know it. Understanding your risk is important because, like other cancers, lung cancer is most curable when it is found early and when it is possible to remove the cancer through surgery.

The National Lung Cancer Screening Trial (NLST) provided support for lung cancer screening with low-dose CT scans. The NLST showed that using low dose CT scans to screen those at high risk for lung cancer can find it earlier than chest x-rays. The study also proved that when lung cancer is found early, lives are saved.
