Joins Elite Group of America’s Leading Charities
Washington, DC [Wednesday, October 3, 2012]—Today, Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) proudly announced that for the third consecutive year, it has received the highest and coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's premier charity evaluator.
Only 9% of America’s charities have received this top designation three years in a row. In addition, LCA is among the "Top 10" most highly rated charities with favorable reviews by the public.
In a letter addressed to Laurie Fenton Ambrose, LCA President & CEO, the rating agency said, “I wish to congratulate Lung Cancer Alliance on achieving our coveted 4-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.”
Ken Berger, President & Chief Executive Officer of Charity Navigator called the designation "exceptional" and said "this differentiates Lung Cancer Alliance from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust."
"Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way," continued Berger.
"We are absolutely honored and thrilled by this news, said Fenton Ambrose. For everyone -- our Board, staff, volunteers, advocates and supporters who have worked so hard and who have put their faith and confidence in LCA to lead lung cancer's national movement -- this is a proud moment. This designation renews our commitment to ending the injustice and saving lives as no one deserves to die from lung cancer. We will not let our stakeholders down."
Founded in 1995, LCA provides free professional, live support and referral services for thousands of patients, their loved ones and those at risk; conducts national awareness campaigns to educate the public about the facts, dispel myths and share calls to action to reduce stigma; advocates for public health research dollars with almost $60 million secured to date (with another $10.5 million pending final congressional approval) using targeted political strategies and mobilizing a nationwide network of volunteer advocates.
Lung Cancer Alliance (www.lungcanceralliance.org) is the only national non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and ending injustice through an alliance of advocacy, education and support.
