Laurie Fenton AmbrosePresident & CEO
Laurie Fenton Ambrose is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) responsible for managing the overall mission and strategic direction of the organization. Hired as LCA’s first President in 2004, Laurie managed LCA’s relocation,
restructuring and realignment from a west coast-based operation to its current headquarters in Washington, DC and oversees the implementation of LCA’s award winning patient empowerment, public health policy, research, and national awareness agenda. Laurie is LCA’s primary liaison to community and government leaders, national media, collaborating agencies, health care professionals, and other strategic alliances. Laurie brings almost two decades of public policy experience to LCA having served in senior management positions in both the legislative and executive branches of government, serving 3 Members of Congress, a United States Senator and Cabinet Secretary primarily in Chief of Staff capacities. Laurie is a graduate of The George Washington University and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government Senior Management in Government Executive Program. Laurie was inspired to join LCA by her friend and associate Sheila Ross, a two time lung cancer survivor.
Emily EyresChief Operating Officer
Emily Eyres is the Chief Operating Officer for Lung Cancer Alliance responsible for guiding strategic planning and program growth to accomplish our life-saving mission. With 28 years of non-profit leadership management and development
expertise, she works with our board, staff, volunteers, and partners to drive high impact, high quality programs that help people, build connections, improve outcomes and save lives. She was inspired to join the organization in 2005 after experiencing both of her parent’s courageous battles with lung cancer. She holds a BA in biology from Mary Baldwin College.
Edy WhiddenChief Administrative Officer
Edythe Whidden joined the staff of LCA as the Director of Administration and Finance in December 2009. She has more than 30 years of non-profit experience and has worked with three non-profits to implement systems, improve operations and lead them
through substantial financial and organizational growth. She holds a BS in Business Administration from Georgetown University. She lost her brother to lung cancer after a short but courageous battle in April 2009.

Barbara MendozaOffice Manager
Barbara Mendoza joined the staff of LCA in June 2015 as Office Manager. She has close to 30 years of experience
in working on the “administrative side of things” in nonprofit organizations and greatly enjoys the combination of logistics and the human touch of an organization’s mission. A graduate of the State University College of New York (SUNY) at Brockport, Barbara holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice. She enjoys writing, pondering the meaning of life and has a vast array of passions, ranging from baseball and aviation to old-time movie stars and all kinds of animals. Her personal interest in the mission of LCA stems from having a dear friend and mentor who walked the walk with small cell lung cancer.
Lanni Boyd, MPHAssociate Director of Stakeholder Relations
Lanni Boyd joined the staff of Lung Cancer Alliance in the summer of 2011. She brings a passion for communicating the needs of underserved, patient communities to broader healthcare coalitions.
In her current role as Associate Director of Stakeholder Relations, she works closely with industry partners and event organizers from around the country leveraging her grassroots experience with volunteers to effectively translate the needs of the greater lung cancer community to foster corporate collaboration and partnerships. She began her professional career with a nationally known homeless shelter in Fort Worth, TX coordinating volunteers and engaging donors. Lanni received her Master’s of Public Health with a focus in global health management from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in biology and minor in social work from Texas Christian University. In her spare time, she enjoys backpacking, sailing and practicing yoga with her husband and Labrador Retriever.
Elizabeth Spangler Community Engagement Manager
Elizabeth Spangler joined LCA in March 2018 as the Community Engagement Manager. She works closely with the Associate Director of Stakeholder Relations to engage volunteers while planning LCA’s national events
including the Lung Love Run / Walk, Advocacy Summit, Screening and Care Conference and Shine a Light and Shine a Light Your Way Events. Prior to joining LCA, she worked for a restaurant group in the DC area where she created and managed their events and marketing programs. Elizabeth graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she loved to cheer on the Heels, sail on the club racing team and volunteer as a communications and events intern at a local animal shelter.
Kristin BramellDirector of Philanthropy
Kristin Bramell joined LCA in 2016 as the Director of Philanthropy. Kristin works with individuals across the U.S. who are driven to help LCA achieve its mission through private philanthropy.
In addition, she works to recruit and engage new volunteer leaders who will grow support for LCA broadly, and implements development activities throughout the organization. Kristin has a BA in Marketing from the University of Maryland, and minored in clarinet performance. She most recently spent over a decade at The Nature Conservancy working with individual donors and foundations in the D.C. and Baltimore regions.
Julia SelbyDonor Relations Coordinator
Julia joined the LCA team in January 2018 as the Donor Relations Coordinator. In her role, she works to identify, cultivate, and engage donors
and provide support for the Philanthropy team. Prior to joining LCA, she spent three years at a DC-based homeless services organization and has experience working with environmental and health-related nonprofits. Julia graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Anthropology and loves to root for the Hoosiers. She also enjoys fostering dogs through a local rescue and playing on a competitive trivia team.
Kevin SchaefferDevelopment & Operations Coordinator
Kevin Schaeffer joined LCA in July 2016 as the Development and Operations Coordinator, working closely with the Senior Manager of Development
and Donor Relations, as well as the Chief Administrative Officer. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Shenandoah University, and gained non-profit experience working and volunteering for the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Shenandoah Valley, as well as volunteering in Kigali, Rwanda with Hope Shines Inc. On the weekends he enjoys exploring new places in DC on his bike or watching any and every soccer match, on tv or in person.

Caroline Fuchs, CAEDirector of Communications & Marketing
Caroline H. Fuchs joined Lung Cancer Alliance in June 2017 as the Director of Communications and Marketing. In this role, she is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive integrated marketing and communications program
that advances the LCA brand and mission. Caroline brings extensive non-profit marketing experience, having worked as a consultant to the association community and as a communications executive with several healthcare professional societies, including the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society. Caroline is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and holds a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University; a master’s degree in liberal studies from Georgetown University and a BA in history from the University of California, Riverside.
Gabby WrightSenior Manager of Marketing & Creative Services
Gabby joined the LCA staff in June 2013. She works closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing to develop and execute social media tactics.
Gabby is responsible for creating and managing content, expanding the online community and fostering engagement on LCA’s social media channels. She assists in the implementation of communications and marketing projects. Additionally, she oversees creative services ranging from printed brochures to digital infographics. Prior to joining the staff she worked for MATTER, Inc., the Sports and Entertainment Marketing division of Edelman PR, in New York City. She holds a BA in Psychology from Trinity College, CT.
Bethany JohnsonMarketing Coordinator
Bethany joined the Lung Cancer Alliance team in December 2018. She works closely with the Sr. Manager of Marketing and Creative Services to assist with marketing efforts,
including content creation and management of LCA’s communication channels. Prior to joining LCA, Bethany worked at a Charlotte-based nonprofit organization where she developed and managed their marketing and communications efforts. Bethany graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in Psychology. In her spare time, she loves hiking with her dog, practicing yoga and spending time with friends and family.
Science & Research
Jennifer King, PhDDirector of Science & Research
Jennifer King joined LCA in 2015 as the Director of Science and Research to lead the scientific and research strategies in support of LCA’s mission. She is a cancer research scientist
who has seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector after leaving the laboratory. Before coming to LCA, she was the Director of Data Governance for a learning healthcare system in oncology and the Associate Director and Scientific Reviewer for the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO. As a researcher, she worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA. Jennifer received a PhD in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BS from Duke University.
Andrew Ciupek, PhDManager of Clinical Research
Andrew joined LCA in 2016 as Manager of Clinical Research Coordinator. Andrew works closely with the Director of Science & Research, the Director of Medical Outreach and the Community and Support Services team
to implement research studies in support of LCA’s mission and to connect patients and those at risk to clinical trials. Prior to joining LCA, Andrew worked as a cancer research scientist at several institutions, including Baylor College of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, and the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center. Andrew received a PhD in Cancer Biology from Baylor College of Medicine and a BS from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Achin JaitlyTreatment and Trials Navigator
Achin joined the LCA team in February 2018 as the Treatment and Trials Navigator, working closely with the Director of Science & Research in order to guide patients
and their loved ones to appropriate treatment options to discuss with their care team. Prior to joining LCA, Achin worked with the Blood and Marrow Clinical Trials Network, providing operational support for studies in the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplant research. Achin also brings clinical experience having worked at the Inova Alexandria Emergency Department as a scribe where he also collaborated with clinicians to improve advanced airway safety. Achin graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Biology. In his spare time, he mentors at-risk youth in Northern Virginia, produces electronic music, and avidly enjoys playing and watching most sports.
Maureen Rigney, LICSWDirector of Support Initiatives
As Director of Support Initiatives, Maureen Rigney oversees LCA’s portfolio of support and outreach services. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Maureen has been with LCA since 2005.
She received her BS in Psychology from South Dakota University and her Master of Social Work degree from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to joining LCA, Maureen worked in the field of community mental health, primarily supervising programs designed to help those with serious mental illness in three states and the District of Columbia.
Miranda Goff, LICSWSurvivor and Caregiver Support Manager
Miranda Goff joined LCA in May 2018 as the Survivor and Caregiver Support Manager. In this role, she provides support to lung cancer patients, caregivers, and professionals through the LCA Helpline
, as well as other volunteer programs such as the Phone Buddy and GUIDES program. She also works closely with the Director of Outreach and Support Services and Director of Support Initiatives to explore current and new opportunities for support and other resources. Miranda received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and is a licensed clinical social worker in the District of Columbia. Prior to working at LCA, she worked in both health and community mental health settings providing behavioral healthcare and other social services.
Kathy LevyALCASE Project Manager
Kathy Levy joined LCA in September 2018 as Project Manager to the ALCASE Project in 7 Alabama Counties. She received her BA from Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL.
Prior to joining LCA, Kathy has 30 years of experience in Healthcare and Community Relations. She worked at the University of Alabama Birmingham as Community Outreach Coordinator. She has extensive community awareness knowledge to navigate patients through health issues and educated patients on health disparities related to cancer. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, traveling and spending time with her family.
Angela CriswellAssociate Director, Medical Outreach
Angela Criswell joined LCA as Field Coordinator in January 2015, arriving from the Kentucky Department for Public Health where she managed the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program.
Angela represents LCA in the efforts on the Kentucky LEADS Collaborative (Lung Cancer Education, Awareness, Detection, Survivorship) and is based in Frankfort, KY. A Certified Prevention Specialist, Angela previously provided statewide technical assistance to Kentucky’s network of community mental health centers and substance abuse prevention boards and coalitions on the prevention of adult high risk drinking, underage drinking, and drunk driving; from 2004 to 2009 she served as State Executive Director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Kentucky. Angela taught political science at the college level for 8 years and has a BA in Political Science from Mississippi College and an M.A. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
Robin MohonCenters of Excellence Coordinator
Robin joined LCA as the Centers of Excellence Coordinator in August 2018. Robin, who is based in Kentucky, provides assistance and information to Lung Cancer Screening programs.
Prior to joining LCA, she was a victim advocate with Kentucky Office of the Attorney General and MADD KY. She has also worked with a nonprofit program serving at-risk youth and for the KY Cabinet of Health and Family Services as a family support worker determining benefits. She has a BA in Political Science from Western Kentucky University, and is a proud Hilltopper and Big Red fan. She volunteers with local victim services programs. Like so many other families, her family has been impacted by lung cancer.
Elridge Proctor, MPADirector of Government Affairs and Public Policy
Elridge joined LCA in September 2016 as the Director of Health Policy. She has extensive experience with Congressional relations and previously worked on Capitol Hill, handling a portfolio of women and children’s health issues
for a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She has also worked on a number of political campaigns and local volunteer boards, including one gubernatorial appointment by Maryland’s Governor, Martin O’Malley; with two consecutive terms to serve, as a member of the Trial Courts, Judicial Nominating Commission for District Fifteen-Charles County, Maryland. Prior to joining LCA, Elridge was the Vice President of Public Policy at the Tourette Association of America. Elridge holds a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration, Government Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
Anita McGlothlinDirector of Economic and Regulatory Affairs
Anita McGlothlin joined Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) in May 2018 as the Associate Director of Science and Regulatory Policy. Her work in advancing the LCA mission through the development and implementation of priority science and regulatory policy activities
is accomplished in collaboration with the Health Policy, Patient and Outreach Services, and Science and Research programs. Anita previously worked as a Senior Health Policy Analyst at the American College of Radiology and brings to the LCA team over twenty years of experience in the economics and health policy arena. She led low dose CT lung cancer screening national coverage efforts for radiology in her prior position and is committed to reducing patient access barriers and increasing the lung cancer screening rates. In addition to her prior radiology-related role, Anita was appointed to the National Lung Cancer Roundtable as the Vice Chair of the Policy Action Task Group, which is a partnership of public, private and voluntary organizations that play a key role in reducing the incidence of and mortality from lung cancer. Like so many other families impacted by lung cancer, there is a personal story and family history for Anita, and she embraces the fight against lung cancer.
Randy KaneCoordinator for Public Policy
Randy Kane joined LCA in April 2018 as the Health Policy Assistant. Working closely with the Director of Health Policy, Randy assists with policy research, advocacy and interaction with stakeholders
such as policymakers and non-profit coalitions to support the Health Policy team and LCA’s goals. Prior to joining LCA, Randy has gained health policy and advocacy experience working at the AARP national office in D.C, as well as several political campaigns and the Iowa State Senate as a legislative aid. Randy graduated from Drake University with a BA in Public Relations and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Policy degree from American University.
